Fiction in Motion

MOTIONS

My project delves into the complexities of personal growth, identity, and self-expression through the lens of fictional characters and dance. It follows the protagonist's journey of self-discovery as she moves out of her childhood home and reflects on key stages of her life. Each of the four fictional books she encounters represents a different phase of her life, from the ages 13 to 25, she uses dance to express the emotions and traits associated with these characters. The choreography incorporates diverse dance styles, each highlighting unique aspects of the character’s identity and emotional journey.

The project explores how the protagonist connects to these fictional characters, drawing parallels between their qualities and her own experiences with school, friends, mental health, gaining confidence, and navigating adulthood. The inclusion of a book as a prop represents the protagonist’s ongoing self-reflection and how literature serves as a mirror to her own growth.

In the final piece, the protagonist confronts her future, symbolised by a book yet unfinished. As she moves through these choreographed narratives, the project serves as a visual and emotional exploration of how one’s identity evolves over time, shaped by the characters we connect with and the experiences that define us. It’s an intricate blend of storytelling, movement, and introspection, where dance becomes both a medium and a metaphor for self-realisation.

  • I'm a passionate storyteller with a love for exploring identity through movement, character, and creativity. With a background in performing arts, I enjoy blending fiction and dance to express personal growth and the complexity of human emotion. Whether I’m writing, choreographing, or diving into a new project, I’m always looking for ways to connect deeper with audiences and bring untold stories to life. Each project is a journey into the heart of human emotion, where I seek to illuminate the subtle ways in which we evolve and reflect on our own lives. Through choreography, writing, and visual storytelling, I dive deep into characters and themes, drawing from my own experiences and the worlds I create. I believe that every movement carries a story, and every story carries the potential for transformation. My aim is to create work that resonates with others, offering both an escape and a mirror to the complexities of life.
