THREADS
PLEASE DON’T PRINT THIS ANYWHERE
Threads is an open exhibition, a fluid transformative journey that takes place over seven hours. It is a durational installation with individual spaces for the audience to explore, connected in an atmosphere of live sound design that manipulates tension over time. The individual pieces that make up Threads, while different in their journeys and designs, all explore similar themes of connection and acceptance. Connections to who we are, where we come from, and our relationship to others and the world we inhabit. The world of Threads is built on tangible elements such as headphones, silks, strings, and wires that embody the theme and connect the pieces.
The audience is welcome to move freely and experience the transformative journey of the piece alongside the artists. All the pieces are connected in one overall narrative, but each artist undergoes their own journey within their piece. The process of making Threads was a journey in of itself. In creating the piece, we explored aspects of our identity and our history and sought to answer what defines us and what led us here. The performance is not a reenactment of this journey, rather, the audience is able to accompany our personal exploration of these themes in real time.
Our philosophy as a collective revolves around drawing together threads from our lives and our relationships, not only in the performance itself but woven into every aspect of it. Incorporating pictures and albums of friends and family, family bass playing and voices in the sound design, and a family member’s original artwork for the poster. Every element of this piece is intentionally selected to explore our connection to ourselves, others, and our past. In building the piece, we have formed connections and ties to each other as a group, embodying our piece in our relationship with each other.

I am a 3rd year Applied Theatre and Community Arts BA student. I am also a movement and performance artist, facilitator and mother. My practice looks at exploring and practising movement and embodied sensations as metaphors for emotional experiences and identity shifts. I also practice other movement and dance such as aerial silks, yoga, latin dance and acrobatic movement to inform and support my more experimental work.
